Twice a day cops change shifts in New York’s Times Square. Some days there are unusual events such as public performances, television shows, and an occasional bomb scare. As they start their shift, the beat cops get a review of expected events and the mood of the famous square that day. What should watch for, what happened earlier that day? These officers, viewed through a food cart, gather around their shift commander to get the orders of the day in 2010.

I started photographing this trio of nuns as they left an ice cream/gelato bar along a narrow shopping street on a summer day in 2007 in Florence, Italy. They were obviously enjoying the warm afternoon and their cones as they window-shopped. Then they stopped, fascinated by this uniform shop, and I made this picture.
